The sea, the sea

by: Paresh

Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 17:57 PM PDT

Oh yuck yuck yuck!
One more time
I'm out of luck,
Once again
The Fates pluck
The carcass of my hope
Quite clean.  Nothing left
But pimply white
My God how gross!
Kind of pastry,
Pasty stuff.  That's me,
Guys.  I mean, fuck!

Extruded in muck,
Doomed to perish
And turn once more
To muck.  What kind of
Luck is that?

Oh, one may cluck positively
Anent the middle passage,
Endeavor to shuck
Off the piss, the shit,
The chains, the vomit --
To chuck the truth
Overboard with the other
Dead savages.

Four - or is it
Five - steps to
Happiness.  Yeah,
That would be cool.

But no.
The block, the whip
Await.

In the huge blue
Sky gulls wheel
And shriek.
The sun blazes
And salt water
Glitters sweetly.

Oh fuck.

Great poem! (0.00 / 0)
Hi Paresh

I've just seen this poem for the first time today - and love it!

I know I owe you an apology for my previous posting...and I am NOT saying I love this poem because of that.

You may or may not be aware of the furore that has ensued...for better or for worse.  I think for the better.

"The Fates pluck the carcass of my hope quite clean."  Mmmm, yes indeed.  I can relate, though am actually considering "hope" in a more relative context for the first time in many many years - all because of Nicole's posting in response to the outcry that came when I initially criticised your other poem.  Ultimate Hope, no.  But much smaller and relative hopes, well, perhaps, eh?

"A place where no hope comes that comes to All".  Hope I've got that quote right - it's from Milton's Paradise Lost Book One, in his description of Hell...

Love, Gill

Hey you (0.00 / 0)
Glad you liked it!  I have since messed about with it some.  Improved it?  God knows.  As the poet who would need an acute accent -- Paul V... -- said, "A poem is never finished, only abandoned." Anyway here's the second version:

The sea, the sea

What to say but yuck...
Once again
I'm out of luck.
Once again
The Fates have plucked
The carcass of my hope
Quite clean.  Nothing left
But pimply white
-- My God how gross! --
Kind of pastry,
Pasty stuff.  That's me,
Guys.  I mean, fuck!

Extruded in muck,
Doomed to perish
And turn again
To muck.  How much more
Could this whole thing suck?

Oh, some may cluck positively
Over the middle passage,
Try to shuck
Off the piss, the shit,
The chains, the vomit,
To chuck the truth
Overboard with the other
Dead savages.  Nothing,
After all, happens
Without a reason.

Just take these
Four - or is it
Five - steps to
Happiness.  Yeah,
That would be cool.

But no --
Your journey has
Hardly begun.
The block, the whip,
Jim Crow await.

In the huge blue
Sky gulls wheel
And shriek.
The sun rages,
And salt water
Glitters sweetly.

Oh fuck.

I'm glad you left contacting me until you did.  This whole thing was seriously festering in me.  But I felt some, a lot, of relief after discharging the energy in a post in reply to Michael's, the one that says word to the effect "What happened to Paresh?"

Well, yes, be careful what you ask for, eh?  Dull it hasn't been.

Be well.

Hey you (0.00 / 0)
Hi Paresh

I like that - the bit about a poem never being finished, only abandoned..

I guess I too am guilty of discharging energy that had built up in me...I'm so sorry that it somehow came to you initially, although that seriously was never my intention.  It was my own frustration with a lack of "being met" in the world and wanting more from this site.  Anyway, enough of all that.

You be well too, Gill
